South Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice Steven R. Jensen is scheduled to deliver the 2026 State of the Judiciary address on Wednesday, January 14. The event will take place at 10 a.m. CST in the South Dakota House of Representatives at the State Capitol in Pierre.

During his address, Chief Justice Jensen plans to discuss several topics related to the work of the courts. These include the Unified Judicial System’s strategic plan, indigent legal defense, probation and treatment courts, judicial security, and maintaining a strong judicial workforce.

The address will be livestreamed via SDNetwork. Those interested can also access the livestream through the Unified Judicial System’s website at https://ujs.sd.gov.

“Chief Justice Jensen will discuss the work of the courts to ensure our nation’s liberties, including the Unified Judicial System’s (UJS’) strategic plan, indigent legal defense, probation and treatment courts, judicial security and a strong judicial workforce.”

The State of the Judiciary provides an annual update on court operations and priorities for South Dakota.
