A man from Eagle Butte, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for abusive sexual contact. U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte handed down the sentence to Jared Paul Dorian, Jr., age 22, on February 23, 2026. After his release from prison, Dorian will be subject to five years of supervised release and must pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Dorian was indicted by a federal grand jury in July 2025 and pleaded guilty on November 20, 2025. The conviction is related to an incident that occurred in April 2024 on the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation, where Dorian engaged in sexual contact with a 12-year-old girl.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted this case under the Major Crimes Act, which requires certain violent crimes occurring in Indian country to be handled at the federal level rather than by state courts.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a national effort started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative brings together federal, state, and local agencies to find and prosecute those who exploit children and help rescue victims. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at https://www.justice.gov/psc.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Wayne Venhuizen prosecuted the case.
Dorian was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
