A man from Eagle Butte, South Dakota, has been sentenced to federal prison for sexually abusing a minor. U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte sentenced Colton Condon, 24, to one year and six months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Condon was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Condon was indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2025 and pleaded guilty on October 1, 2025. The conviction is related to an incident that took place between October 1, 2023, and November 14, 2023, in Eagle Butte on the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation. At the time of the offense, Condon was 21 years old and had sexual contact with a victim who was 14 years old.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted this case under the Major Crimes Act. This federal law requires certain violent crimes occurring in Indian Country to be prosecuted in federal court rather than state court.
The prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program brings together federal, state, and local resources to find and prosecute those who exploit children and to identify victims. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at https://www.justice.gov/psc.
The investigation involved the FBI and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Wayne Venhuizen handled the prosecution.
Condon was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
