A man from Little Eagle, South Dakota, has been sentenced to nearly three years in federal prison for first degree burglary of a home on the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation. U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann sentenced Jett Allen Grey Cloud, 28, to 33 months in federal prison and two years of supervised release. Grey Cloud was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Grey Cloud was indicted by a federal grand jury in June 2025 and pleaded guilty on July 15, 2025. The sentencing took place on November 3, 2025.

According to court documents, the incident occurred shortly after midnight on February 25, 2025. Grey Cloud, who was heavily intoxicated at the time, knocked on the door of a family home in Little Eagle while looking for a friend. When the father did not recognize him and refused entry, Grey Cloud forced his way inside and got into an altercation with the residents. During the scuffle, Grey Cloud pulled out a knife and stabbed the father in the head, causing serious injuries including a fractured left orbital and a severed tendon in his hand. A teenage boy then pushed Grey Cloud out of the house and locked the door. Authorities arrested Grey Cloud later that night.

United States Attorney Ron Parsons stated that prosecution took place under the Major Crimes Act because it authorizes certain crimes occurring in Indian country to be prosecuted federally rather than at the state level.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs – Office of Justice Services investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carl Thunem handled prosecution.

Grey Cloud was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service following sentencing.
