United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell has announced the sentencing of Eddie Bromwich, a resident of Lower Brule, South Dakota. Bromwich was convicted of assaulting, resisting, and impeding a federal officer. The sentencing was carried out by U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte on June 30, 2025.
Bromwich, aged 45, received a sentence of six months in federal prison. Following his release, he will be under supervised release for two years and is required to pay a $200 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The conviction stems from an incident on February 6, 2024. Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement officers stopped Bromwich for speeding on the Lower Brule Sioux Indian Reservation. During the stop, Bromwich resisted commands and engaged in a physical altercation with the officers, resulting in one officer sustaining a broken finger.
A federal grand jury indicted Bromwich in March 2024. He was found guilty after a three-day jury trial held in April 2025.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs – Office of Justice Services at the Lower Brule Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kimberly Zachrison and Troy Morley prosecuted the case.
Bromwich has been remanded into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
