A Rapid City woman was sentenced on March 23 to two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, according to an announcement from United States Attorney Ron Parsons.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and the Department of Justice to address gun violence and ensure community safety. The sentence also includes three years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment paid to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Alice High Rock, age 33, was indicted by a federal grand jury in May 2025 and pleaded guilty on December 8, 2025. According to court documents, on April 9, 2025, police received reports that High Rock was driving while intoxicated and discharging a firearm. Officers located her at a residence where she was found with a stolen pistol. High Rock had previously been convicted of an offense punishable by more than one year in custody, making it illegal under federal law for her to possess firearms.
The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative involving the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN). The program aims “to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.” Through PSN efforts in South Dakota, authorities work “to bring together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.”
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Rapid City Police Department investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Schroeder prosecuted it.
High Rock was immediately remanded into custody following sentencing.
