A Sioux Falls man has been sentenced to federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm. U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell announced that Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange sentenced Dustin Douglas Wade Deverney Hubbeling, 24, to two years and two months in federal prison on September 22, 2025.
Hubbeling will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term and must pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
According to court records, Hubbeling was indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2024 for Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. He pleaded guilty on June 26, 2025.
The incident occurred on December 5, 2024, when officers with the Sioux Falls Police Department encountered Hubbeling and found a pistol in the waistband of his pants. At the time, he was prohibited from possessing firearms due to three prior felony convictions.
Homeland Security Investigations and the Sioux Falls Police Department investigated the case. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Joyce prosecuted it.
Hubbeling was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
“I announced today that Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange has sentenced a man from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, convicted of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person,” said United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell.
