United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced on March 12 that Tyler Hausten, a resident of Sioux Falls, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier on March 9.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and federal prosecutors to address drug-related offenses in the region.
Hausten, age 46, will also serve 10 years of supervised release following his prison term and has been ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in April 2025 and pleaded guilty on December 22, 2025.
According to the announcement, Sioux Falls Police stopped Hausten’s vehicle on November 24, 2024. During the stop, officers found a bag containing 132 grams of methamphetamine under the driver’s seat.
The investigation was conducted by the Sioux Falls Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Joyce prosecuted the case.
Hausten was immediately remanded into custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following sentencing.
