A man from Sisseton, South Dakota, was sentenced on March 13 to two years and six months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a prohibited person, according to an announcement by United States Attorney Ron Parsons.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address gun violence and enforce laws prohibiting felons from owning firearms. Robert Wolfe, Jr., age 45, will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term. He was ordered to forfeit the firearm involved and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Wolfe was indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2025 and pleaded guilty on November 17, 2026. The charges stemmed from an April 19, 2024 search of his residence by deputies with the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office. During the search, officers found a Remington bolt-action rifle. Wolfe is barred from possessing firearms due to a felony conviction in 2014 for possession of a controlled substance.
The investigation involved the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Joyce prosecuted the case. Wolfe was immediately remanded into custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after sentencing.
This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, which brings together resources from several Department of Justice initiatives including Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhoods. The program aims to reduce gun violence and make neighborhoods safer through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities.
